Yamla Pagla Deewana - Cert: 12A Running Time: 163 minutes

Yamla Pagla Deewana: This funjabi comedy comes from the makers of Nahne Jaisalmer and Heroes, and is sure shot way to get your dose of laughter for the day.

YPD is the story of Paramveer (Sunny Deol), and his quest to find his estranged father, Dharam (Dharmendra) and brother Gajodhar (Bobby Deol),at his mother's behest. This means Paramveer, an NRI living with his white wife, children and mother as an NRI (Non-Residential Indian), will have to journey across the seven seas to Banaras, where his father and brother are known as the local con-men.

A still from the song "Chamki Jawani"
A still from the song "Tinku Jiya"

I won't give too much away, as I don't want to spoil the film for those who would like to watch it.

The fight scenes may have been cheesy, and in some parts, the comedy may have been cheap, but nothing worth a 12A certification in my opinion. Although, having said that, the girls in what can be seen as the two item songs of the film (Tinku Jiya & Chamki Jawani), were incredibly scantily clad if I must say so myself! On that note, the music from the film is put together very well, and theres a balance between the genre of songs within the film. There are the item numbers which I mentioned above, and then there are some soft tracks like Charhade Rang and Sau Baar. And of course, the token shaukhiya track, Yamla Pagla Deewana. I will review the tracks in a later post in more detail :)

I would definitely recommend it for a bit of stress relief and just for a good laugh!

Enjoyability: /5 (although an open sense of humour is required!)
Family compatibility: /5
Overall rating: ★/10
